2012 Navaratri Durga Oct 16, 2012 9:00am to Oct 24, 2012 9:00am NAVARATRI CELEBRATIONS ARE TUESDAY OCTOBER 16TH THROUGH TUESDAY OCTOBER 23RD VIJAYA DASHAMI IS ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 24TH During Navaratri, we invoke the energy aspect of God in the form of the universal mother. Navaratri is divided into sets of three days to adore different aspects of the goddess. On the first three days, the goddess is invoked as Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and vasanas. The next three days, the goddess is adored as a giver of material and spiritual wealth, Lakshmi. The final set of three days is spent in worshipping the mother as the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and science - Saraswati. Vijaya Dashami, on the tenth day, is the celebration of the victory of the goddess! This year, according to astrological calculations, there will only be eight nights, with Vijayadashami being held on the tenth day. Please join us for any or all of the pujas. All events will be at the temple, NOT at the ashram. Please bring offerings like fruit or flowers if you like. Also, on Tuesday, October 23rd, all are welcome to bring a small item (book, chanting mala, photograph, etc. with your name tag) and place it on the altar. These can be taken back after the puja on the morning of Oct 24th. No valuables, please.
