Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes

el proximo,DOMINGO 19 DE .FEBRERO. La parte

de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que

estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las

calles entre 11:45 y 12:00, dependiendo de que tan

rapido cocinemos.

Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en

ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren

venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo,

las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son

bienvenidos. Todas las pesonas que deseen donar

alimentos deben llamar el VIERNES en la tarde

(8391-2378 o 2282-2006)(o email

khullood@hotmail.com) a mas tardar para indicar el

tipo de comida que traera y la cantidad, ya que asi

podremos sabe que hace falta comprar (ver lista de

alimentos abajo). Tambien pueden dejar mensajes en

ese mismo celular. Toda la comida debe estar en mi

casa a las 9:00am del el sabado en la noche para

empezar a picar enseguida.

We are planning on doing the next homeless feeding

this coming SUNDAY,FEBRUARY 19 .Chopping begins

at 9:00 (as we are on rainy season), and departure

for the streets between 11:45 and 12:00,

depending on how fast we can cook.

I have several people who are interested in helping

out. It would be great to know who else wants to

come - just call and confirm. Also, people who want

to donate food are also welcome. Please have all

food donators call me by FRIDAY AFTERNOON

know what food they will bring and the QUANTITY,

so we know what is left pending to buy. Pending food

will be bought on Thursday (See list below) They can

JAI AMMA.YESTERDAY,CASA AMMA HELPED AT EL PUENTE TO FEED THE LOCALS IN NEED.THE SOUP KITCHEN FEEDS 600+MEALS A MONTH.
ALSO IN SAN JOSE ,LA LUZ DE AMMA.HAD A FEEDING OF THE POOR IN LA CARPIO.ALL THOSE WHO GAVE DONATIONS FOR THE BRACELETS,WE ARE FEEDING GOD'S CHILDREN!!!THANK YOU

El sabado 29 de enero, un grupito de colaboradoras fuimos a visitar el centro comunitario/ taller/guardaria & escuela fundada por Gail Nystrom f en el barrio La Carpio. La idea era alimentar a las mujeres vinculadas con el lugar. Tambien, habiamos conseguido unos charlistas, Graciela es medica y vive en Puerto Viejo de Limon. Junto con un colega, hablaron del tema "el autoestima".
. Mientras los conferencistas hablaron con el grupo (unos 15 mujeres), estuvimos preparando la sopa, suficiente para que cada mujer podria llevar a su casa, tambien.
Nos impresiono lo bien que encontramos a este grupo de mujeres! Nitidas, confiadas, y transmitian un sentido de bienestar. Tambien, fueron respetuosamente interesadas en aprovechar el dia. Llego pocos hijos de ellos. Pero Chepe & Lola, los perritos mascotas (no oficiales) de La Luz de Amma, fueron muy bien recibidos por todos y entretuvo al grupo, agregando un toque de reunion familiar entre todos.

On Saturday January 29th, a small group of colaborators visited the school/workshop/community center founded by Gail Nystrom, tireless community leader, with the intention of preparing a meal for the women of this center and their children. We had also arranged for a talk offered by Doctor Graciela from Puerto Viejo de Limon and her collegue. The subject was self esteem. We prepared the soup, (enough for each woman to take home to her family as well) while the conference took place. We were all struck by the sense of confidence and well being that the group generated. They were interested in taking advantage of this day and were receptive and hospitable to us all. Our (unoffical) Luz de Amma mascots, Lola and Chepe, had also been invited in and stole the show and the hearts of many, entertaining both the adults and children alike and creating the feeling of a family reunion amongst us.

Feliz Cumpleaños AMMA desde Amritapuri.
El ashram está muy hermoso. Las palmeras y árboles por aquí brillan con sus adornos de luces de colores; algunas purpuras, otras verdes, rojas, azules y amarillas, todas neon.

El ambiente es festivo y la gente es abundate. (Es casi como un turno pero del espíritu). Ayer por la noche eran tantas las personas que casi no se podía caminar por el monasterio. H...oy, en el propio día del cumpleaños, toda la actividad se ha movido al otro lado del estero, cruzando el Amrita Setu. Montaron un salón provisional para albergar a las 50,000 personas, o más, que se esperaban para hoy.

Luis y Anand estuvieron un rato en el escenario junto a AMMA mientras ella daba darshan(abrazos). ELLA empezó a las 11am y continuará hasta entrada la mañana del miércoles 28 de setiembre. Que manera de celebrar su cumpleaños, dando cariño a sus hijos.

Las horas corren y la gente continúa llegando a los pies de la Madre mientras Ella sigue sonriendo y amorósamente abrazando a sus devotos, que han venido a celebrar un año más de sus bendiciones en todos los planos del universo! Que inspiración AMMA!

Happy Birthday AMMA from Amritapuri.
The ashram is very beautiful. The palm trees here and adornments glow with

colored lights, some purple, some green, red, blue and yellow, all neon.

The atmosphere is festive and people are providing abundant. (It's almost like a

turn, but the spirit). Last night there were so many people who could hardly walk

around the monastery. H. .. oy, the birthday itself, all activity has moved across the

creek, crossing the Amrita Setu. They set up a temporary classroom to accommodate

the 50,000 people or more, which is expected today.

Anand Louis and spent some time on stage with her as she AMMA darshan (hugs).

She started at 11am and continue until late morning of Wednesday 28 September.

What a way to celebrate his birthday, giving affection to their children.

The hours and people are still coming to the feet of the mother as she keeps smiling

and loving embrace her devotees, who have come to celebrate another year of

blessings at all levels of the universe! That inspiration AMMA!

Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a la gente de La Carpio el proximo,DOMINGO 26 DE JUNIO. La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 11:45 y 12:00, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.

Seria fenomenal saber quienes quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. Todas las pesonas que deseen donar alimentos deben llamar el VIERNES en la tarde (8391-2378 o 2282-2006)(o email khullood@hotmail.com) a mas tardar para indicar el tipo de comida que traera y la cantidad, ya que asi podremos sabe que hace falta comprar (ver lista de alimentos abajo). Tambien pueden dejar mensajes en ese mismo celular. Toda la comida debe estar en mi casa a las 9:00am del el sabado en la noche para empezar a picar enseguida.

Please have all food donators call me by FRIDAY AFTERNOON (8391-2378 or 2282-2006) or (email ..khullood@hotmail.com) at the latest to let me know what food they will bring and the QUANTITY, so we know what is left pending to buy. Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes el proximo,DOMINGO 20 DE .MARZO. La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 11:45 y 12:00, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.

Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. Todas las pesonas que deseen donar alimentos deben llamar el VIERNES en la tarde (8391-2378 o 2282-2006)(o email khullood@hotmail.com) a mas tardar para indicar el tipo de comida que traera y la cantidad, ya que asi podremos sabe que hace falta comprar (ver lista de alimentos abajo). Tambien pueden dejar mensajes en ese mismo celular. Toda la comida debe estar en mi casa a las 9:00am del el sabado en la noche para empezar a picar enseguida.

We are planning on doing the next homeless feeding this coming SUNDAY,MARCH 20 .Chopping begins at 9:00 (as we are on rainy season), and departure for the streets between 11:45 and 12:00, depending on how fast we can cook.

I have several people who are interested in helping out. It would be great to know who else wants to come - just call and confirm. Also, people who want to donate food are also welcome. Please have all food donators call me by FRIDAY AFTERNOON (8391-2378 or 2282-2006) or (email ..khullood@hotmail.com) at the latest to let me know what food they will bring and the QUANTITY, so we know what is left pending to buy. PROGRAMA DE LA ESCUELA

Este programa ayuda a las familias y los niños, ayudando con los gastos de la escuela, y proporcionar ayuda voluntaria con la tarea. Las escuelas también pedir a los estudiantes y las familias para ayudar con los gastos, tales como suministros de baño, mantenimiento y reparación, y nosotros respondemos como nos sea posible.
Aunque la educación pública es gratuita en Costa Rica,hay costos obligatorios de asistir a una escuela pública para cosas tales como zapatos, uniformes, libros, útiles, y las fotografías de clase. La "puesta en marcha" los gastos totales de más de $ 150 por niño, con los gastos en curso de casi $ 2.25 por semana, para incluir el desayuno / almuerzo y la copia de los cargos para los exámenes.

El puente de ayuda a las familias a satisfacer esta necesidad.

Although public education is free in Costa Rica,there are mandatory costs of attending a public school for things such as shoes, uniforms, books, supplies, and class photographs. The "start-up" expenses total more than $150 per child, with ongoing expenses of nearly $2.25 per week, to include breakfast/lunch and copy charges for exams.
The Bridge helps families meet this need.

Haiti Relief Efforts

After the catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, Embracing the World immediately joined relief efforts and is continuing to asesss and provide long-term needs for the earthquake victims.

Food for Earthquake Victims

After ETW representatives traveled to Haiti to assess long-term needs, ETW has begun sponsoring the education of children affected by the disaster and providing staple foods like rice and beans to affected families. The ultimate goal is for the children to receive their schooling onsite, with all requisite academic subjects covered as well as separate classes for music and arts.

What a wonderful and fun fulfilled year this has been!

I have been both dreading and happily anticipating this time of year – starting now getting ready for Christmas all the way through Easter – non-stop busy. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe it would be possible to accomplish what we at The Bridge have been able to do. You the Bridge Supporters put 52 children in school this year, and monthly feed close to 600 people. We were privileged to help with building bridges, bathrooms, and basketball courts!

You’ve improved lives, by helping start new businesses, and have started lots of children on the road to a more hope-filled life. Almost all of the Bridge Kids are first-generation literates, and you have made that possible. You’ve sent them off to school with hearty and nutritious food in their stomachs, which has enabled them to concentrate on their studies, instead of the gnawing hunger in their bellies.

The Bridge School Program is about to graduate two special kids, Alejandro and Maria.

They are the first to go all the way through 6th grade, supported by your donations of hands-on volunteering, money, school supplies, and prayers. Alejandro is graduating first in his class, with his sister Maria not far behind. It’s off to high school next year. If they were our own kids, we couldn’t be prouder.

I was reflecting last week on the day Alejandro’s Mom came to us to ask if we could help put him in school. We’d been known to spend that much money on a night out on the town, so it didn’t take too much persuading. No one in their family had ever had an education, but she wanted one for her kids. I wondered then if we’d be around for the second, or the third years. Little did I know that he’d be only the first of 52; all children with no hope of getting into school without the help of you, The Bridge Supporters. I’d like you to reflect on what that might mean to future generations. You are indeed a blessing.

We won’t stop now – we’re on a roll, and expect to see at least these same 52 and I suspect a few more to be properly suited up when the next school year starts in February.

Nothing thrills me more than to see little Irene reading the newspaper to her mother, or Mauricio reading out loud to his baby sister. These children are daily becoming more qualified for quality employment. They will be less subject to exploitation. They will suffer less despair. You have given meaning to the lives of these children, and hope to their families.

I only wish you could experience first-hand as I do the thrill of being at ground level being able to meet personally the lives you have touched with your outpouring of time, talent, and treasure. The world is a better place because of you. Feel free to polish your halos and fluff up your wings. You can stand proud in knowing that you indeed do make a difference!

Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes el proximo,DOMINGO 24 DE OCTUBRE. La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 11:45 y 12:00, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.

Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. La fecha de celebración coincide con la luna llena del mes de Asadha (Julio- Agosto). En este día se conmemora el nacimiento del gran sabio Sri Vyasa , y al linaje de seres iluminados que le ha precedido.

El legado de la India al mundo es su cultura de iluminación, su perspectiva para que los seres humanos alcancen la cumbre de la conciencia de Dios. Ante la decepcionante sensación de vacío que aporta el glamour del materialismo, la sociedad moderna busca orientación y cobijo en las filosofías perennes de oriente. Desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días, existe en la India una sucesión ininterrumpida de seres iluminados cuyo fin es conducir al buscador de la Verdad hasta su objetivo.

Puede que te preguntes qué necesidad hay de encontrar un guía espiritual. «¿Es que no puedo leerme unos cuantos libros espirituales y avanzar a mi manera por el camino espiritual?»

Cuando uno quiere ser médico, no sólo tiene que formarse con catedráticos expertos sino que, al acabar la carrera, debe hacer las prácticas en un hospital bajo la supervisión de médicos experimentados. Si se necesitan tantos años para poder hacer realidad el sueño de ser médico, ¿qué no se necesitará entonces para establecernos en la conciencia de la Verdad suprema? Si lo que deseamos es la sabiduría espiritual, deberemos dirigirnos a auténticos maestros espirituales que hayan estudiado, practicado y experimentado la Verdad.

¿Cómo distinguir a un verdadero maestro espiritual de un impostor? Al estar en compañía de un ser iluminado, se siente un aura tangible de amor y paz. Se puede observar que todos los que acuden al que está inmerso en la Divinidad reciben el mismo trato independientemente de su estatus social, posición económica, religión o raza. Todas y cada una de las palabras que dice y de las cosas que hace un verdadero Maestro tiene como propósito el despertar espiritual de la gente. En el mahatma que sirve a todos y acoge a todos con los brazos abiertos no existe ni el más mínimo rastro de ego ni de egoísmo.

El verdadero Guru es algo que el intelecto es incapaz de comprender. El Satguru trasciende toda lógica y juicio mental porque se trata de una experiencia. Al Satguru no se le alcanza a comprender mediante complicados ejercicios intelectuales, pero los que tienen pureza de corazón consiguen reconocerlo de forma espontánea.

The timing coincides with the full moon ASADHO month (July to August). This day commemorates the birth of the great sage Sri Vyasa, and the lineage of enlightened beings that preceded it.

The legacy of India to the world is its culture of lighting, his vision for human beings to reach the pinnacle of God-consciousness. Given the disappointing feeling of emptiness that brings the glamor of materialism, modern society seeks advice and shelter in the perennial philosophies of the East. From ancient times until today, in India there is an unbroken succession of enlightened beings whose purpose is to lead the seeker of Truth to its target.

You may wonder what need of finding a spiritual guide. "Is that I can not read me a few spiritual books and move my way along the spiritual path?"

When one wants to be a doctor, not only has to be formed with faculty experts but, after graduating, you must practice in a hospital under the supervision of experienced physicians. If it takes many years to realize the dream of becoming a doctor, what does not need time to settle into the consciousness of the supreme Truth? If we wish to spiritual wisdom, we turn to authentic spiritual masters who have studied, practiced and experienced the truth.

How to distinguish a true spiritual master of an impostor? Being in the company of an enlightened being, you feel a tangible aura of love and peace. One can see that all who come to which is immersed in the Godhead are treated equally regardless of their social status, economic status, religion or race. Each and every one of the words we say and the things that makes a true teacher is meant for people's spiritual awakening. In the Mahatma that serves everyone and welcomes all with open arms there is not the slightest trace of ego or selfishness.

The true Guru is something that the intellect is incapable of understanding. The Satguru transcends all logic and mental trial because it is an experience. The Satguru is not complicated enough to understand by intellectual exercises, but those with purity of heart gets recognized spontaneously.

SUNY Confers Amma with a Honorary Doctorate

The State University of New York (SUNY) presented spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) with an honorary doctorate in humane letters today at a special ceremony held at its campus in Buffalo.
SUNY confers honorary degrees to “recognize excellence and extraordinary achievement in the fields of public affairs, the sciences, humanities and the arts, scholarship and education, business and philanthropy and social services which exemplify the mission and purpose of the University; to honor meritorious and outstanding service to the University, the State of New York, the United States, or to humanity at large; to recognize individuals whose lives and significant achievements should serve as examples of the University’s aspirations for its students.”

“It is Amma’s prayer that we develop the expansive-mindedness to embrace both scientific knowledge and spiritual wisdom. Water, Precious Water
Just before Amma left for her North American tour, Amma met with all the ashram residents in Amritapuri. A questioner then asked Amma to suggest ways to save resources like water and other natural wealth within the ashram and to make its use efficient so at least the ashram could set an example. Amma said she was so very happy hearing the question on water and natural preservation and that her children were thinking about it. Amma started telling all how precious natural resources were and how important it is to save them.
She suggested having separate pumps in the toilet and using the sea-water or backwater for flushing and separate fresh water for the taps. Amma also pointed out that this solution may be expensive to set up.
Since water taps waste a lot of water when the force is high, one may use accessories that can make the water slower so less water is wasted. Many keep the tap open while brushing, shaving or washing. Amma said we need to be aware and to be patient.

“While traveling in an airplane, the water tap actually trickles and one waits patiently to wash his hands or face, even if a billionaire or a businessman. Similarly in a community like here, one needs to be careful and aware.

The world is going through a tough situation. In the future, there might even be war to get access to water. If it is the problem of the future, we should also be concerned and responsible now. Suppose there is a fire in the ground floor of a block of flats and the person calls out for help, a person living on the tenth floor cannot remain idle saying “it is fire in someone else’s apartment, why should I bother?” Soon the fire may even spread to the tenth floor. Likewise, we are all responsible for what is happening and for what will happen.

Amma said that the ashram belongs to the world. So one should have awareness and responsibility. Preservation of our natural resources should be one of our foremost duties. The natural resources that we consume is the wealth that need to be transferred to coming generations. If we mindlessly exploit the resources, we won’t be able to leave anything for our grand children.

Living with Amma

For Grace to flow to us, Amma says that we must put forth a lot of effort. Many people say that everything that happens is destined and that there is nothing one can do about it. Such people, Amma points out, usually go off the spiritual path. The effort that we put forth creates our destiny. Therefore, we should always try to put forth strong, positive effort in everything we do.
There is a story about Beethoven that illustrates the point above. One night after he had performed a brilliant piano concert, many people converged around him to congratulate him. Among them was a young woman who said, “Oh sir, if only God had given me the same gift of genius that you have, I would be so happy.” Beethoven replied, “ Madam, it is not genius or magic. All you have to do is practice hard on your piano eight hours a day after 40 years, and you will be as good as I am.”
Another example is a story about Thomas Edison. He tried using more than 2,000 different materials as filament in a light-bulb, before finding the right material. When a young reporter asked him how it felt to fail so many times, Edison replied, “ I never failed even once. Inventing the light bulb just happened to be a 2000 step process.”
People like Edison and Beethoven have the right understanding about the value of the effort. That is why they were able to accomplish so much in the world. Only when we really strive hard will grace flow to us.

Historic moment at Buffalo

I was fortunate to be there and want to share my experience with all of you.

It was a historic occasion , probably one of a kind .. It was a great moment that a university in US would choose to confer a doctorate not on a scientist or an engineer but a Sage, Spiritual Master… One of the deans said “In honoring Amma, we are also honoring the TRADITION SHE REPRESENTS AND the culture and spirituality that India has to offer”. So it was a great day for Sanatana Dharma.

Slee concert hall was large and well lit. The stage had a big organ with all the pipes going to the ceiling .. from the top there hanged a large screen where they were showing a slide show- photos of Amma, Coimbatore campus, Amritapuri campus, SUNY Buffalo campus photos etc.. it was nice seeing our university photos being shown at SUNY Buffalo.

Then came the master of ceremonies Stephen , one of the top officials there and who visited Amritapuri last year. To the tune of a new song composed by Rahul, the procession walked in . There were the President of SUNY Buffalo Thompson, the Provost Satish Tripathi and several other top SUNY BUffalo people. Also from our side
, there was our VC of Amrita and others.

Then the MC said, all rise for Chancellor Amma to walk in .. and to thunderous applause as we all stood up, Amma and the swamis walked in . They sat on the chairs allotted to them ,and then there was a organ music piece played by a music faculty for a few minutes. After which the president of SUNY Buffalo spoke trying to introduce Amma to the audience.

I say “trying” to introduce, because in his own words, Amma is hard to explain in a few lines.. anyway he described Her as an incredible humanitarian , and spiritual leader and also as the chancellor of Amrita University that has a partnership with Buffalo. He went on to talk about the collaboration between Amrita and UB, and how Amma was a champion of the cause of education.

But then he went on to say that Her work is too large and the list of Her accomplishments too numerous to enlist and maybe “the following video will give you a better picture of who She is and what She does”.

Then they showed the new ” Embracing the world video “… It was beautiful as they showed darshan , Amma’s charitable works, tsunami relief, the relief efforts for the children of the families where farmers committed suicide , the bhuj earthquake efforts, katrina etc etc etc …

Then again at the end of that He said “clearly an incredible humanitarian … Buffalo is honored to give the highest degree of the Doctorate of Humane letters upon this incredible leader .

Then He invited Amma on the stage, and a lady , said ” by the powers vested in me i now confer upon you the title of the doctorate of humane letters ” and put a hood on a smiling Amma…

Everyone stood up and there was thunderous applause for a few minutes… Tears flowed in most eyes, as they recognised that this was a historic moment …
100 years later, when the Amma Bhagavatam is written , SUNY will stand out as the first university to have recognised Amma … It was historic because a university was recognising the ideology that Amma stood for, and the work She does ..

Then Amma addressed the gathering. She sat on a chair and Swamini Krishnamrita translated. This was one of the best talks I have heard from Amma … so beautiful, cohesive and hard hitting .

She started with thanking the UB system for this honor and in characteristic humility said that there are thousands of Her children who serve selflessly and have made all the work possible in Her organization .This award really belongs to them ..

Then She went on to say that science and technology have progressed, more discoveries have been made, more devices have been made…. thousands of new books have been written … more universities have come up.. many more PhD’s have come up .. knowledge has increased tremendously ….. but yet the world is in a sorry state- families are breaking up,divorces are increasing, sorrow is increasing ,violence is increasing , terrorism is increasing, the whole nature is polluted, the atmosphere and air and water are polluted, the climate is going haywire etc etc … Something has terribly gone wrong .

If in a garden of beautiful flowers instead of a fragrance there is a terrible stench, you know something is wrong .. similarly too is the state of the world today . Saying knowledge has increased is like saying the sun has risen but it is still dark…

Spirituality is also a science … The ancient sages carried out experiments in the inner labs of their own minds and came up with basic truths.. until modern science recognises these basic truths , the darkness will continue..

it was a great talk ….applause that followed says more.

Then MC spoke again and said “In honoring Amma, we honor Her work and also the tradition She represents – the rich culture and spirituality that India brings “. That was a most moving remark.

Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes el proximo,DOMINGO 30 DE MAYO. La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que no estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 12:00 y 12:30, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.

Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. We are planning on doing the next homeless feeding this coming SUNDAY MAY 30th. Chopping begins at 9:00 (as we are out of rainy season), and departure for the streets between 12:00 and 12:30, depending on how fast we can cook.

I have several people who are interested in helping out. It would be great to know who else wants to come - just call and confirm. Also, people who want to donate food are also welcome. Please have all food donators call me by FRIDAY AFTERNOON (8391-2378 or 2228-9742) or (email ..khullood@hotmail.com) at the latest to let me know what food they will bring and the QUANTITY, so we know what is left pending to buy. Pending food will be bought on Thursday (See list below) They can leave a message on my phone. FOOD MUST BE AT MY HOUSE BY 9:00 am. SUNDAY so we can begin chopping right away.

Hogar Montiel

Hasta ahora lo que hemos hecho en el Hogar Montiel es construir 6 baños, le pintamos los cuartos de colores a las niñas, el pasillo que estaban en muy mal estado y el baño viejo, y otros pequeños arreglos.
Con la ayuda de Cuca y Gabriela pusimos una cerca eléctrica ya que había un acosador que las espiaba, tenemos que recordar que estas son niñas con abuso sexual, así que hubo que protegerlas para que se sintieran seguras.
También donamos semanalmente comida, ropa, jabón y auxiliamos para sacarles los piojos a las niñas, les ensenamos yoga y ayudamos hacer tareas y estudiar esto se hace una vez al mes.
Todos los meses aquí se donan 250 dólares de comida y otras necesidades.

Hogar Magdala
Estos niños se encuentran paralizados y algunos ciegos por el abuso físico violento y sexual de sus padres.
En el hogar Magdala se encuentra Eckart, Erland y Maribel aquí les ponemos una maquina que se llama LIFE MACHINE que los ayuda en varios niveles (emocional, mental, físico y energético) compramos PEDI ASURE, se ocupan usualmente 30 por mes de los grandes.
Los ayudamos a comer (algunos comen por sonda) y se les da un poco de mimos.
Compramos un compresor de $500, y un verticalizador que cuesta $2500 con la ayuda de Arnoldo Brenes.

El tercer proyecto es tratar de ayudar a los indigentes a salir de las drogas, una vez al mes se les da comida y se les presenta la opción de ayuda.
Este último proyecto no es tan exitoso, en un ano solo hemos sacado a uno, con la colaboración especial de Isabel y Vimala que fueron las encargadas de llevarlo a rehabilitación.
Bueno esto es más o menos lo que se hacemos con sus donaciones.
Gracias a todos los estudiantes de yoga por haber asistido a las clases de yoga sin fines de lucro.
Gracias también a los colaboradores del satsang de Amma.

Hello everyone,

Here is an update on what we have been doing with the 3 projects here in San Jose Costa Rica. Thanks to all of you, we have been able to get a lot done! And we will continue to do so. Please let us know if you would like to join in on any of these projects. We would love to share this wonderful enriching experience with everyone.
Hogar Montiel Santana Rio Oro (home for 16 girls ages 7-18)- Here are the things we have been able to accomplish in the Hogar Montiel so far: a new bathroom with 6 showers, 5 sinks, and 3 big wash sinks for washing clothes.
All 4 bedrooms are painted with bright happy colors; each room has two different colors. The girls are so happy to have a new, clean, pretty room. You should see their smiles. Priceless! The hallway with high ceilings has been painted, and the ceiling in the old bathroom was in poor condition and we were able to paint and repair that as well. Some other small things were also fixed.
An electric fence was put up surrounding the whole property. This was done very fast since there was a "peeping Tom" spying on the girls at night! It was very important to get this fence up fast since most of these girls have been abused and felt very insecure knowing that a man was inside the property and spying on them. Now they are so content and sleep the night through without ever thinking about their security! They know that they are safe now.
We make weekly donations of food, clothes, soaps, cleaning supplies and treatments for the ongoing lice problems. We do weekly "lice checks and treatments if they are needed, with a natural recipe of bitters, alcohol and boric acid. It works! We go 4-5 times a week to help with homework and prepare for exams. We do activities such as yoga, dance and play games too. Fun stuff......

Hogar Magdala ( home for 16 disabled kids)- These children are paralyzed and some blind due to the physical abuse they received from their parents and family members. On Wednesdays Eckart, Maribel and Erland visit the children and help out with whatever is needed, such as feeding, which is done mostly through feeding tubes, moving the kids from beds to chairs, and just giving affection and love to these sweet souls. They also bring along the LIFE machine to help heal the children's physical, mental, energetic and emotional bodies.In addition we bring a nutritional supplement that is needed on a daily basis called Pediasure. They use 1 large can a day. Each can costs $20.
We were able to buy a compressor for the oxygen tank which is needed by some of the children to breath. We are now saving up to purchase what is called a Verticalizer, so the children can change positions on this table that moves them up & down (Vertically and horizontally) for their circulation. This machine costs $2000 US dollars,

Homeless Feeding- The third Project is the homeless feeding Project. Once a month we make 200 servings of a delicious hot soup and bring it to the streets of San Jose, where the most destitute come out to enjoy this hot meal made with love. We also offer them help if they are interested in going to a rehabilitation center to get off drugs and alcohol. This project has not been so successful in the aspect of getting people into rehab centers. We have only been able to get one person to a rehab with the help of Vimala and Isabel. However they really love the soup and the fact that people show up who care and have compassion for them.
So this is what we have been doing with your donations, we thank you all. Special thanks to everyone who contributed and helped make these projects happen; Peter & Michaela, Stefano, Hazel, Cuca, Gabriela, Yoga Mandir, Yoga Lamat, Rancho Itauna, and all the yoga students who attended the workshops to help these projects. Also, all those from the Amma Sat Sang "La Luz de Amma". We appreciate all your donations, in whatever form the have come in.

Gracias a las bendiciones de Amma y al deseo desinteresado de ayuda de don Alberto Alonso quien ha ayudado en forma muy generosa al hogar Magdala, ha empezado a funcionar el programa de recolección de verduras y frutas para los orfanatos.
En este momento estamos coordinando la logística para recoger los productos del Automercado de Plaza Mayor.
El producto debe recogerse todos los días y esto va a incrementar el costo por transporte así que si alguien se puede comprometer a ayudar en este aspecto sería de muchísima utilidad.
Habrá días asignados para el Hogar Magdala y el Hogar Montiel. Esperamos que con esto se pueda cubrir el faltante de verduras y frutas de ambos hogares para beneficiar a los niños en cuanto a su nutrición.
Deseamos recordarles que en el hogar Montiel el patrocinador que suplía parte de los comestibles como arroz, frijoles, aceites , sal y demás se retiró, por lo que estamos tratando de ayudar a soportar esta situación mientras conseguimos a algún patrocinador.
Les agradeceríamos que se pongan en contacto para cualquier ayuda que puedan dar o contacto que nos puedan ofrecer para solucionar esta situación.

We are grateful for Amma´s blessings and Don Alberto Alonso´s selfless help for allowing the fruit and vegetable recollection program to take place. He has been generously helping Hogar Magdala for two months already and now arranged for Automercado in Plaza Mayor to donate their surplus fruits and vegetables for the children. The product has to be collected everyday, which will increase expenses, therefore we are looking for volunteers who can commit to help with this chore.

We will asign days to alternate the delivery to Hogar Magdala and Hogar Montiel. Our aim is to provide enough fruits and vegetables for the children in order to enhance their nutrition. We hope, through this program, to be able to achieve this.

We would like to remind you that the sponsor providing part of Hogar Montiel edibles, such as rice, beans, oil, salt and sugar can no longer help them. For this reason we are trying to help them fulfill this needs while we find another sponsor to take the responsability.

Haiti Relief Efforts

March 1, 2010

Amma responded to the terrible Haiti tragedy by bringing her unique brand of care to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya, having just returned from his second visit to the island nation, reports that a four-story house has been rented in Laboulle, a suburb in the hills outside of Port Au Prince, for the express purpose of establishing an orphanage there.

Support for this endeavor will come from Embracing the World, the charitable arm of Amma’s organization, in conjunction with MA Center’s Health Care Charities, Inc., and the Amma Foundation of Canada. Applications for the required permits are being filed with the Haitian government, and propose to open the orphanage with twenty-five children initially.

To date, Embracing the World has shipped a container with pallets of medical supplies to Haiti within two weeks after the earthquake. It was received by Partners in Health, an organization the has been working in Haiti for the last twenty years. The list of supplies included assorted medications, surgical equipment and OR set-up supplies, feeding and drainage tubes, assorted wound care supplies, diagnostic supplies, syringes, needles, blankets and sheets, drapes, tents, sleeping bags, face masks, obstetric and infant care supplies, wheel chairs, crutches, braces, splints, protein powders, saline solution, disinfectants, and the list goes on. A second container of supplies is now being assembled and will ship as soon as possible.

Hogar Magdala's needs are the same, plus they need 30 large cans of Pediasure in powder each month. These cans cost about 11,000 colones/each.

Matias taught a yoga retreat in Santa Teresa this past January and we raised $2000. We have already painted the dinning hall in Hogar Montiel, helped with some school supplies, brought 50 kilos of Organic beans from a local farmer, plus one whole load from the entire list of food needs and toiletries. We also took the girls from Montiel to the fun park to end their vacation with a happy day. They loved it. We brought a picnic style healthy lunch and we all had a blast, including the Nun's!
Matias enseno un taller de yoga el enero pasado y ganamos $2000. Pintamos el comedor en H. Montiel, unos útiles de la escuela, un quintal de frijoles orgánicos de un campesino local, y la lista entera de comida y jabones.
También, fuimos al Parque de Diversiones con las niñas de H. Montiel para celebrar el final de sus vacaciones. Hicimos un almuerzo estilo "picinic" y disfrutamos todos, hasta las Hermanas también!

Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes el proximo Dom 28 DE FEBRERO. La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que no estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 12:00 y 12:30, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.
Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. Todas las pesonas que deseen donar alimentos deben llamar el VIERNES en la tarde (8391-2378)(o email khullood@hotmail.com) a mas tardar para indicar el tipo de comida que traera y la cantidad, ya que asi podremos sabe que hace falta comprar (ver lista de alimentos abajo). Tambien pueden dejar mensajes en ese mismo celular. Toda la comida debe estar en mi casa a las 9:00am del domigno o el sabado en la noche para empezar a picar enseguida.

Haiti Relief Efforts

January 20, 2010

In response to the deepening crisis in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, Amma announced a plan to provide relief there.

Simultaneously, Amma has directed Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya to travel to Haiti with a small team of medical advisors to assess conditions on the ground. Br. Dayamrita’s team will explore avenues for Embracing the World to make a meaningful long-term contribution to the recovery effort. Click here to find out how you can help.

Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya and his team are on the way to Haiti. They will then access the situation there and will be making plans on how MA Center can effectively provide immediate and long-term relief to the people of Haiti.

What we learned is that during a crisis like this, the best way to help is through financial donations. The reason for that is it allows those funds to be used in the local economy and in that way boost the sustainability of the local communities.

In Amritapuri, Amma led several thousand people in a prayer for the peace of the departed souls, for those who have suffered injuries and devastating material losses, and for the mental strength and peace of mind of those who have lost their loved ones.

Amma’s charities worldwide are now known collectively as Embracing the World. In the United States, Embracing the World projects are managed by M.A. Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Ramon, California. Miles de personas se reunieron con Amma en la sala principal del Ashram en la víspera de Año Nuevo para dar la bienvenida al 2010. Las celebraciones comenzaron a las 11 pm con una serie de espectáculos culturales. Un grupo de niños comenzó con una canción “Yo soy la luz del mundo, soy maravilloso, soy hermoso ...” La segunda presentación fue un monólogo en sánscrito por un estudiante de la Universidad de Amrita sobre los beneficios de los avances en la tecnología versus los avances en las relaciones humanas y la compasión. A continuación, un espectacular baile de fuego y juegos malabares entretuvieron al grupo, seguidos por un baile tradicional de la India, un solo de piano clásico, y una breve obra de teatro montada por los niños. Las representaciones culturales terminaron con una bella interpretación de uno de los conciertos para violín de Bach.

Como la medianoche se acercaba, Amma pidió a todos que oraran por la paz mundial y guió a todos en el canto de “Lokah Samastah Sukinau bhavantu”. Después del cambio de día Amma dio su mensaje de Año Nuevo, durante el cual se explicó el verdadero significado de la celebración. “La celebración es olvidarse de sí mismo. Es una actitud. La fe en que el ‘yo’ de mi ser y la conciencia detrás del universo son lo mismo es la base de la celebración. "Amma, dijo.

“Sólo porque el reloj marque las 12.00 horas el 31 de diciembre, nuestra vida no va a ser la celebración. Para eso nuestra mente debe estar llena de amor y compasión. Cuando el amor y la compasión nos llenan el corazón se encuentra la novedad en todo momento, nunca te aburres, siempre estás entusiasta y feliz, y la vida se convierte en una celebración” Amma elaboró.

“Tomamos varios votos sobre el Año Nuevo, pero qué tan profundo es? Tenemos que evaluar”, Amma pidió a todos reflexionar. “Tenemos la capacidad para superar nuestras faltas. Sinceramente tenemos que intentarlo” ella alentó.

“No somos islas aisladas. Somos como eslabones en una cadena, conectados entre sí. No esperemos que los otros cambien primero, si nosotros cambiamos otros cambiarán también”, Amma recordó a cada uno.

Amma luego guió a todos en el canto Khol Darwaza, que terminó con todos entonando ‘Jai Mata Di’. Cada vez más fuerte, conforme aumentaba, todo el mundo se hizo eco de Amma cantando, lanzando sus manos en el aire. Al final, Amma dijo, “La oración del corazón de Amma es que cada uno debe ser capaz de reír y ser feliz como los niños pequeños y que la gracia divina nos bendiga por eso. Que la oscuridad sea eliminada por completo y que la luz pura de Dios brille”. Amma pidió a todos que levantaran las manos con las palmas abiertas y sacudiéndolas, al tiempo que responde a ´Mata Rani Ki’ con un “Jai”.

Y la celebración continuó

Thousands of people gathered in the Ashram Main hall on New Year’s Eve with Amma to welcome 2010. The celebrations began at 11pm with a series of cultural performances. A group of children began with a song “I am the light of the world, I am wonderful, I am beautiful…” The second performance was a monologue in Sanskrit by an Amrita University student on the benefits of advances in technology vs. advances in human relationships and compassion.

Next a spectacular fire dance and juggling performance entertained the gathering followed by a traditional Indian dance, a classical piano solo, and a short play put on by children. The cultural performances ended with a beautiful rendition of one of Bach’s violin concertos.

As the hour of midnight approached, Amma asked all to pray for world peace and then led everyone in chanting ‘Lokah Samastah Sukinau Bhavantu.’ After the changing Amma gave her New Year’s message during which she explained the true meaning of celebration.

“Celebration is forgetting oneself. It is an attitude. We need to have good control over the mind for that. The thought that ‘I am limited individual’, ‘I am this body’ will not help up us to forget our self. The faith that the self in me and the the consciousness behind the universe is the one and the same is the basis of the celebration. ” Amma said.

“Just by the clock striking at 12.00 on 31st December, our life is not going to be celebration. For that our mind should be filled with love and compassion. When love and compassion fills our heart you find newness in every moment, you never get bored, always enthusiastic, always happy and life always become a celebration. ” Amma elaborated.

“We take various vows on New Year but how deep is it? We have to evaluate.” Amma asked everyone to introspect. “We have the ability to overcome our negativities. We sincerely have to try” she encouraged.

“We are not isolated islands. We are like a ring in the chain, connected to each other. Don’t except others to change first, if we change ourselves others will also change” Amma reminded every one.

Amma then led all in singing Khol Darwaza which ended with all chanting ‘Jai Mata Di’. Louder and louder, as it grew, everyone echoed Amma’s chanting, throwing their hands up in the air. At the end, Amma said, “Amma’s Heart felt prayers is that everyone should be able to laugh and be joyful like small children and may divine grace bless us for that. May the darkness be completely eliminated and may the pure light of God shine.” Amma asked everyone to raise their hands with their open-palms and shake them while responding to ‘Mata Rani Ki’ with a “Jai”.

And the celebration continued.

FEEDING THE HOMELESS- DECEMBER 24....CHRISTMAS EVE LUNCH FOR THE POOR

Estamos planeando hacer la alimentacion a indigentes el proximo Dom 15 de NOV... La parte de preparacion comenzara a las 9:00 am (ya que no estamos en epoca lluviosa), partiremos hacia las calles entre 12:00 y 12:30, dependiendo de que tan rapido cocinemos.

Tengo varias personas que estan interesadas en ayudar. Seria fenomenal saber quienes mas quieren venir, solo deben llamar para confirmar. Asi mismo, las personas que deseen donar alimentos tambien son bienvenidos. Todas las pesonas que deseen donar alimentos deben llamar el VIERNES en la tarde (8391-2378) / 2282-6922. (o email khullood@hotmail.com) a mas tardar para indicar el tipo de comida que traera y la cantidad, ya que asi podremos sabe que hace falta comprar (ver lista de alimentos abajo). Tambien pueden dejar mensajes en ese mismo celular. Toda la comida debe estar en mi casa a las 9:00am del domigno o el sabado en la noche para empezar a picar enseguida.

DECEMBER 24,SUNDAY..CHRISTMAS EVE
We are planning on doing the next homeless feeding this coming Sunday,DECEMBER 24. Chopping begins at 9:00 (as we are out of rainy season), and departure for the streets between 12:00 and 12:30, depending on how fast we can cook.

I have several people who are interested in helping out. It would be great to know who else wants to come - just call and confirm. Also, people who want to donate food are also welcome. Please have all food donators call me by FRIDAY AFTERNOON (8391-2378) / 2282-6922. or (email ..khullood@hotmail.com) at the latest to let me know what food they will bring and the QUANTITY, so we know what is left pending to buy. Pending food will be bought on Thursday (See list below) They can leave a message on my phone. FOOD MUST BE AT MY HOUSE BY 9:00 SUNDAY (or Saturday evening) so we can begin chopping right away.

If you would like to help chop, please bring a chopping board and sharp knife.
